Hankering For Classification

Vestiges of the Past Live on in the Present

Mixed media installation with light bulbs, office files and carpet fragments.

Variable dimensions, dimension of one table 10.5 x 6 x 4.5 cm, 2014

The site-responsive installation, Vestiges of the Past Live on in the Present, was created during an artist residency, for the exhibition Hankering for Classification. The piece responded to the change of use of the building from an office building to a new art space, focusing on the remnants that remained.

The exhibition considered the 'role of classifying, archiving and collecting in contemporary arts practice'.

Vestiges of the Past Live on in the Present was commissioned by Wewiora Projects for the group show Hankering for Classification at TOAST Will Host in Manchester. The exhibition was co-curated by Elizabeth Wewiora and Matthew Pendergast and supported by Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces, Toast and Arts Council England.
